"I arrived in Hong Kong 9 weeks ago to start my first teaching job and I haven't looked back since.I was nervous about coming to a completely new country and starting a whole new career but I can honestly say it has been the best experience of my life. As long as you are outgoing, patient, creative and love kids, you will be fantastic at teaching English to children. The children and Chinese teachers at my school are so keen to learn from me that I really feel I'm doing something valuable and rewarding. I have found it so easy to integrate into Hong Kong life - your time here can be as Western or as local as you want it to be! Out in the New Territories, there is beautiful countryside and beaches which are perfect for hiking and surfing and getting away from the fast-paced city life. There is so much local food to try here and the locals are always interested in talking to you. I can't speak Cantonese (yet!) but talking to locals is a great way to learn. Out in Hong Kong Island, the nightlife is fantastic and if you are ever homesick, everything you could get at home is readily available, from clothes shops to food and much more. All the other teachers out here are a really close-knit group and I have made some fantastic friends. But not only that, there are so many social groups to join in the ex-pat community, and so many activities to try, that you quickly make friends from all walks of life out here in Hong Kong. And of course, one of the perks of living in Hong Kong is that during the school holidays, the rest of Asia is yours for the taking! As I write this, I'm packing for a trip to the Philippines this Easter break with some of the other teachers I met out here. Hong Kong is amazing, teaching English out here is the best decision I ever made". - Sarah MacKenzie, UK

TEFL Job Summary

Teach to Travel’s Hong Kong positions are based in and around Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. There are a number of other areas which are also serviced, however, these positions are only available at different times of the year. The positions themselves consist of two strands - we have the Kindergartens (private and public schools), catering for 2 - 6 year olds, and the ESL positions which cater for all ages and are based in language centres.

TEFL Job Location

Within Hong Kong the schools are located in the following areas:

1) Causeway Bay (HK Island)
2) Wah Fu (HK Island)
3) Shatin (Kowloon)
4) Sham Shui Po (Kowloon)
5) Kowloon Tong (Kowloon)
6) Lok Fu (Kowloon)
7) Yuen Long (New Territories)
8) Tuen Mun (New Territories)
9) Siu Hong (New Territories)

Each of these locations have been heavily researched by Teach to Travel agents and have been confirmed as safe destinations for teachers to abide in. The locations themselves are found by Teach to Travel partners in Hong Kong. The availability of these will depend on the qualifications and experience of the teacher. Generally speaking, the more experience the teacher has, the closer the teacher will be to Hong Kong Island. If the teacher is new to the teaching world, then perhaps the surrounding areas of the Island will become the readily available options. However, there will be a degree of flexibility with regards to this.
